MidTECH – the regional NHS innovations ‘hub’ – has announced the finalists invited to its annual, Oscars-style awards ceremony, taking place at the Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Thursday 26th November.

Medical Devices Technology International Ltd (MDTi) based in Wolverhampton will be working with Numark, the UK’s largest virtual chain of independent pharmacists as from September 2009.

A former Birmingham-based nurse has come up with an innovative idea that is set to benefit chemotherapy patients – or anyone who needs intravenous treatment.

The search is on to find the best new pioneering techniques and inventions by NHS staff in the West Midlands.

Innovation EXPO 2009 will be a unique event that brings together the private, public, voluntary, academic, and scientific healthcare communities in an innovative environment at the Excel Centre in London on the 18th & 19th June.

Innovation is the lifeblood of the NHS. The NHS in the West Midlands employs some of the most innovative people on the planet. Yet we need to get better at supporting innovation, creating an environment in which it can flourish and, perhaps most importantly, ensure that the best, proven ideas are taken up by all of our people and our organisations as fast as possible. After all, we have a duty to the population we serve or to provide the best possible services we can and to do so equitably – adopting best practice quickly and enthusiastically is the way to meet that duty.

Public asked to consult on £20 million Innovation Challenge Prizes

A £220 million fund will be made available to encourage innovation within the NHS, Health Minister Lord Darzi announced today, during an event at the Science Museum in London to mark the launch of ‘Innovation for a Healthier Future’, a series of initiatives to nurture and reward innovation within the NHS.
